Z & Y Bistro Earns Coveted Bib Gourmand Designation

The new contemporary Chinese restaurant and spin-off of long-time favorite Z & Y restaurant earns the prestigious award in its first year.

Michelin, the same name many people associate with the tire company, also operates a program to rate restaurant quality. The Bib Gourmand Award, which originated in France and means Good Little Restaurant, recognizes restaurants for providing exceptional value for the amount of money customers pay for their meal. The Michelin Guide has a 100-year history of restaurant reviews, having only added the Bib Gourmand distinction in 1997.

Restaurants chosen to receive the Bib Gourmand honor must provide diners with a menu that offers a starter, main course, and dessert. Additionally, the check presented to diners must be $40 or less for a high-quality meal of at least two courses, wine, and dessert.  Z & Y Bistro, a contemporary new Chinese restaurant in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, was one of only a few new restaurants in the Bay Area to be added to the list in 2019.

Z & Y Bistro joins 150 other restaurants throughout California, including its sister location, Z & Y Restaurant, in receiving this distinguished honor. Restaurants are not eligible for star review for Michelin’s main review program the same year they receive a Bib Gourmand designation.
